Practice Group Project Manager – Cybersecurity & Data Privacy, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, Washington, D.C. or Chicago, IL

We are seeking a Practice Group Project Manager – Cybersecurity & Data Privacy to join our Firm. This position will be based in our Washington, D.C. or Chicago office (hybrid).

The Opportunity:

The Practice Group Project Manager – Cybersecurity & Data Privacy is responsible for providing tactical, analytic, marketing, research and administrative support to the cross-office, cross-practice Cybersecurity & Data Privacy (CDP) practice initiatives:

  • Serves as primary point of contact and coordinated support to all CDP attorneys.
  • Assists CDP co-leaders in implementing local and global practice initiatives, special projects and long-range plans.
  • Conducts ongoing partner and practice need assessment to enhance internal group operations and support business growth.
  • Operates as a liaison with other administrative departments to address ongoing needs of CDP growth and development.

Practice Management Projects:

  • Works with global CDP leadership in the development, execution and monitoring of overall business growth and internal group operations, including practice strategy and pipeline considerations.
  • Participates in local and global CDP practice meetings including providing input for and creating agendas, proposing relevant speakers or topics for discussion and documenting items for action and follow-ups.
  • Coordinates CDP partner meetings, practice group retreats and other special events, including preparation of content, budget and meeting research, data, and materials.
  • Assists in preparing materials for annual practice reviews and large client meetings.
  • Reads CDP-related trade and business journals; circulates articles of interest to the practice group and relevant Firm departments (i.e., Marketing re: client outreach; PDMs re: trainings).
  • Gathers and analyzes CDP practice metrics and other customized data as needed or requested; sends monthly reports to partners of new matters, Business Development (BD) activity and other relevant data.
  • Works with CDP partners and attorneys to ensure timely and coordinated group communication.
  • Identifies ways to regularly improve CDP’s strategy for knowledge management (KM); supports the assigned KM partners and coordinates with the KM Department in their efforts; reviews content and usage of CDP intranet pages; manages centralization of precedent material.
  • Supports the Research & Knowledge Services (R&KS) Department in the management of CDP research subscriptions.
  • Coordinates with the KM, R&KS and other departments as needed on development of firm databases related to CDP.
  • Develops and maintains a global CDP calendar liaising with other departments to ensure capture of all CDP and Firm events.
  • Supports assigned Executive Assistants with client intake and conflicts review / clearing process.

Global Department Assistance And Coordination:

Marketing/Business Development:

  • Works with Marketing Department to support the integration of newly promoted partners and lateral partners and onboarding of counsel and associates to ensure marketing materials and presentations are up-to-date and reflecting of current capabilities.
  • Assists Marketing Department with coordination of Request For Information (RFIs), client pitches, Request For Proposal (RFPs) and presentations; maintains files of same and tracks successful engagement rate.
  • Coordinates the development and upkeep of CDP marketing material and resources including bios, practice descriptions, marketing brochures, experience lists and client mailing lists.
  • Manages and tracks CDP sponsorships; secures approvals, meeting sponsorship requirements and deliverables and tracks Return On Investment (ROI). Regularly researches and proposes new sponsorship opportunities.
  • Assists in identifying business development opportunities for targeted client outreach, authorships, speaking engagements, client programming. Supports the Marketing team in the implementation of business development opportunities.
  • Manages overall positioning of global CDP practice (including individual attorneys and sub-practices) for legal directories and awards submissions; provides guidance and support to Marketing Department in drafting submissions.
  • Provides ongoing insight into cross-selling opportunities.
  • Conducts competitive analysis of peer Firms and informs CDP practice leaders of new business development considerations.
  • Supports alumni relations; seeks opportunities for alumni engagements and tracks alumni career moves. Assists Marketing Department in the planning and execution of alumni events.

Attorney Development

  • Assists cross-practice and cross-office Professional Development Managers (PDMs) on attorney development efforts; provides insight into local and global practice growth and opportunities.
  • Assists with integration of Fall associates and newly promoted counsel and partners; ensures consistent coordination and communication across all participating offices.
  • Provides PDMs with proposed training topics related to recent substantive practice developments.

Attorney Recruiting

  • Supports the Firm process for incoming, outgoing, and transferring CDP attorneys.
  • Assists with the summer associate program (e.g., provides content for global presentation to summer associates; ensures associates gain knowledge of and experience with the global CDP practice).
  • Communicates and coordinates recruiting needs for the global CDP practice.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)

  • Assists Global DEI team with DEI-related initiatives involving CDP attorneys.
  • Ensures coordinated communication and support of DEI efforts across all offices.
  • Assists coleaders in aligning practice operations with the Firm’s DEI priorities.

Client Intake/Billing

  • Stays engaged in the intake process by following up on stalled engagement items and ensuring all firm client/matter intake requirements are met.
  • Works with select partners and clients on new client engagement and defined scope of billing process. Liaises with Client Accounting team to assist with Accounts Receivable, write-offs,
    accruals, when escalated.


  • Current knowledge of industry best practices, trends and techniques.
  • Knowledge of relevant Firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) with the ability to learn new software and operating systems.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated success in leading others, problem solving, resolving conflicts, and developing effective working relationships with employees at all levels.
  • Ability to effectively employ coaching and problem-solving techniques.
  • Flexibility to travel, adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs.


  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five years progressively responsible related experience in a law firm or professional services environment.
