In a monthslong study featuring more than 500 volunteers, Consumer Reports found companies may not be adhering to provisions for consumer rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act. The volunteers attempted to opt out of data collection conducted by 214 California data brokers with 62% of participants saying they were unsure if their request was successful or they weren't able to make the request at all. Additionally, participants were often asked to provide more personal data to successfully opt out of a collection.
