Bertin Martens is an economist and Senior Research Fellow at Bruegel, a Brussels-based economic policy think-tank, since May 2022. He is also a non-resident research fellow at the Tilburg Law & Economics Centre at Tilburg University in the Netherlands. Prior to that, he was a senior economist in the Digital Economy Unit at the Joint Research Centre (Seville) of the European Commission, and deputy chief economist for trade policy in the directorate-general for TRADE in the European Commission. His research covers a range of digital economy and regulatory issues, including online platforms and data market regulation, artificial intelligence, and copyright in digital media, and more broadly the impact of digital technology on institutional and regulatory change. He holds a PhD in economics from the Free University of Brussels.
