About the IAPP

Based in London, João Barreiro is a qualified lawyer and currently the Chief Privacy & Data Ethics Officer of BeiGene, a biopharmaceutical company with over 10,000 employees listed on the NASDAQ, Hong Kong and Shanghai stock exchanges.

João leads a team across US, China and Europe that operates as the main point of contact in Legal and Compliance for all matters related to Privacy, InfoGov, cybersecurity and digital data laws in general, including AI. In 2022, he was recognized as Privacy Executive of the Year by the PICCASO Privacy Awards for his outstanding work at BeiGene.

- Visiting Lecturer of the Law Faculty of the University of Maastricht
- Former global Chief Privacy Officer of HCL Technologies and Willis Towers Watson
- Past privacy roles at the European Medicines Agency, IBM, and Celgene (BMS)
