Jason Chipman is at attorney at the law firm Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale & Dorr LLP.  He is well known as a leading authority on handling cybersecurity and data breach matters.  He is also deeply experienced advising clients about export control investigations, the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), and related regulatory issues.  He joined WilmerHale in 2012 after serving as Senior Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice, and after previously serving as Counsel for National Security Law and Policy in the Department’s National Security Division.



During his time at the Department of Justice, Mr. Chipman’s practice focused on National Security Council issues, representing the government in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, cybersecurity, and various DoD and Intelligence Community activities.  Mr. Chipman received numerous government awards for his work on national security matters and speaks frequently on national security law topics. 



Prior to joining the U.S. Department of Justice, Mr. Chipman was an attorney at Hogan & Hartson L.L.P. in Washington D.C., where his practice focused on complex trial and appellate litigation, the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.  He has also served as an adjunct instructor at George Mason University School of Law.



Mr. Chipman lives in Arlington, Virginia, with his wife and three young children.
