Senior Global Legal Counsel, AsiaPac Privacy Leader

Working as Senior Global Legal Counsel in Ernst & Young’s (EY) Global Data Protection team, Chris has 19 years of experience in privacy and data protection compliance within Australia and globally. Chris has been extensively involved in building and managing EY’s global privacy framework, including EY’s Global Personal Data Privacy Policy and EU-approved Binding Corporate Rules (BCR) Application.  Chris currently leads a team of privacy professionals managing EY’s global Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) process with respect to EY’s global processes, systems and applications which process personal data and confidential client engagement information.

 

Chris is also the Asia-Pacific Privacy Leader for EY and in this role he leads a network of Local and Regional Privacy Officers within the Area, so that compliance is maintained with both local data privacy laws and regulations as well as EY’s Global Personal Data Privacy Policy.

 

Chris has been admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW for 27 years and has gained broad experience across a number of other practice areas of law, including litigation and dispute resolution, commercial law, risk management, practice protection, insolvency, intellectual property and information technology.

 

In 2017 and 2018, Chris was appointed a Board Director of the International Association of Privacy Professionals – Australian and New Zealand Chapter. In this role, he was the co-chair of their Events Advisory Committee. Chris has obtained the CIPP/E, CIPP/US, and CIPM certifications from IAPP and in January 2018 was awarded a Fellow of Information Privacy with the IAPP.
