Jeroen Terstegge, CIPP/E, CIPP/US
Jeroen H.J. Terstegge is partner at Privacy Management Partners, a Dutch consultancy firm which provides privacy compliance management services, DPO services, privacy training and regulatory affairs.
Terstegge advises clients in various sectors, including the internet, financial, energy, government and healthcare sector in The Netherlands and abroad. He specializes in corporate privacy compliance, cross-border privacy compliance, employee privacy, privacy governance and regulatory affairs.
Terstegge serves as the Chair of the Privacy Committee of the Dutch Council of Central Business Associations (VNO-NCW / MKB Nederland), which represents Dutch business on privacy and data protection issues in The Netherlands and the EU. In this role, Terstegge was closely involved in the development of the GDPR and all recent Dutch privacy regulations. He is also a member of the board of the Dutch Privacy Law Association, and is a member of the Ethics Board of the EU-funded research project SoBigData. He was a member of the High Level Expert Group to the Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs, which advised the Dutch Government on the privacy and ethical issues of Big Data, was Editor-in-Chief of Privacy & Compliance, is a frequent speaker at conferences and seminars, and is the author of several books and articles on privacy and data protection.
Earlier in his career, Terstegge was corporate privacy officer/senior legal counsel with Royal Philips Electronics, where he was responsible for developing and managing the Philips global privacy framework. He is one of the founding fathers and pioneers of the binding corporate rules (BCRs) idea, for which his organization received an HP-IAPP Privacy Innovation Award in 2006. Prior to joining Philips, Terstegge was a policy analyst with the Dutch Data Protection Authority specializing in employee privacy, was part of the team that drafted the Dutch Data Protection Act at the Dutch Ministry of Justice and was a researcher in employee privacy law at the Universities of Amsterdam and Maastricht.
Terstegge is a member of the IAPP Faculty and is a former Chair of the IAPP KnowledgeNet Amsterdam. Terstegge holds master's degrees in Business Law and Law & Business Administration from Groningen University.
