About the IAPP

João Vareda is currently a Deputy Head of Unit at DG Competition (European Commission), dealing with antitrust cases in the IT, internet and consumer electronics sector. Before that he occupied the position of Deputy Head of Unit dealing with antitrust cases in the electronic communications sector also at DG Competition. He holds a PhD in Economics from the Nova School of Business and Economics (Lisbon, Portugal) and has published in several scientific journals in the field of industrial economics.
