Hannah Poteat, CIPP/US
Hannah Poteat is a privacy and information security attorney with over 25 years of
experience in data protection, security, intellectual property, and internet policy, who
did privacy before privacy was cool. As LTK’s Assistant General Counsel of Privacy,
Hannah leads a team that finds innovative privacy and data protection solutions for
global influencer marketing and social shopping. Hannah knows that advertising and
privacy don’t have to be opposed.
Previously, Hannah led the Global Privacy team at Twilio, where she handled matters
including guidance of corporate policy in line with developing global privacy laws,
compliance with GDPR and binding corporate rules, incident response and security
policy development, and negotiation of data protection agreements. Hannah also built
GitHub’s privacy function from start-up to its acquisition by Microsoft. This work not
only involved taking GitHub from the demise of Safe Harbor through the
implementation of GDPR, but also included working closely with the machine learning
team to build privacy into the design of what would become GitHub Copilot.
Hannah is CIPP/US certified and was a founding Fellow at the Internet Law and Policy
Foundry. Prior to taking on a legal career, Hannah worked in information security for
fourteen years.
When Hannah isn’t chasing down new developments in state privacy laws, she can be
found driving a Bronco offroad or blowing glass into very strange shapes.
