IAPP Amends European Data Protection Training and CIPP/E Exam to Include GDPR Essentials

Combination of CIPP/E and CIPM will enable privacy professionals to meet DPO requirements

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. – March 1, 2017The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), the world’s largest and most comprehensive global information privacy community and resource, announced today that its European Data Protection Training and Certified Information Privacy Professional, Europe (CIPP/E) exam have been updated to include relevant information about the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

IAPP’s updated European Data Protection Training is the most robust offering to date on European data protection and GDPR information, interpretation and operational impacts. From novice practitioners to seasoned veterans seeking certification, the training is appropriate for data protection professionals at all levels. Those who complete the training will gain skills needed to navigate data protection compliance risks found in the GDPR. The training supports IAPP CIPP/E.

The combination of IAPP’s CIPP/E as well as the Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), a certification in privacy program management, will provide privacy professionals with the knowledge required to hold the role of a data protection officer (DPO), according to an article written by Eric Lachaud in International Data Privacy Law, a journal published by Oxford University Press. As required by the GDPR, the CIPP/E provides DPOs with a comprehensive understanding of the European legal framework and the CIPM teaches DPOs the theoretical capacities to lead a data protection policy.

“As a result of GDPR, we predict more than 75,000 DPOs needed worldwide, along with more than 20 hours of training to acquire a workable understanding of the GDPR,” said IAPP’s president and CEO, J. Trevor Hughes, CIPP. “Our updated training and CIPP/E exam, as well as our CIPM, will ensure privacy professionals have the most up-to-date skills and knowledge required to take on this important role.”

Led by world-class faculty working in the privacy field, the updated Europe Data Protection Training includes interactive, engaging content that emphasize real-world context, practical application, and critical thinking. Participants can take the training either in-person or online.

Additionally, the European Training and CIPP/E exam are developed by international experts in the field of European data protection. The certification is also accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) under the International Organization for Standardization’s (ISO) standard 17024:2012 for personnel certification programs.
