About the IAPP

 Damianos is a seasoned expert in AI governance and biometrics, currently serving at the Information Management Unit of Europol. His career began in 2003 with the Hellenic Police, where he specialized in counter-terrorism, aviation security, and information management. Since joining Europol in 2017, he has been leading the implementation of biometric identification technologies within the organization. A strong advocate for the ethical and responsible use of emerging technologies, Damianos emphasizes the importance of robust algorithmic governance to ensure that AI-driven decisions remain free from discrimination and bias. He holds an MA in Terrorism and Security from the University of Salford and is a certified Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP).
