Keynote: Roger Alford, Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General, White House (Navigate: Digital Policy Leadership Retreat 2025)

Original broadcast date: 25 June 2025

Roger Alford, principal deputy assistant attorney general in the White House and a former Notre Dame Law School professor, spoke at Navigate: Digital Policy Leadership Retreat 2025 about adapting antitrust metrics and regulations to the digital economy to protect consumer rights in the face of constant change. Instead of just price and quantity, measures from the industrial era, Alford said current and future antitrust efforts have to weigh considerations like consumer privacy, time and attention. He described several cases where consumers have benefitted from regulators' new ways of looking at antitrust protections.
