TRAINING FAQs
What you need to know about the IAPP’s online and instructor-led training courses:
- Who should take an IAPP training course?
Training courses are appropriate for professionals who want to develop their privacy knowledge as well as those seeking an in-depth exploration of major topics included on a certification exam. (Note that Privacy Core™ e-learning is a separate product that is appropriate for professionals across all levels of an organization.)
- Are training courses designed for test preparation?
Training courses alone are NOT sufficient for people seeking pure “test prep.” Rather, they are detailed, informative, interactive opportunities to learn about critical privacy concepts that are also integral to the exam. Both the training and the exam are based on the same body of knowledge.
- What do the courses cover?
Training courses cover an outline of critical topics that privacy pros in a given sector or jurisdiction need to know to do their jobs. We call this outline a body of knowledge, and it serves as the basis for both IAPP trainings and IAPP certification exams. (Find the bodies of knowledge here.)
- How can I best prepare to take a certification exam?
The IAPP’s training courses are the best certification training available. But they’re not the only thing you should do to prepare. In fact, test-takers are more likely to pass an exam if they also:
- Review the body of knowledge, exam blueprint and authoritative resources (found here)
- Read the textbook (included with training or available for purchase here)
- Review sample questions (included with training or available for purchase here)
- Review industry resources, such as key pieces of legislation, news and IAPP publications and blog posts
- How much time should I spend studying and preparing?
We recommend you study, using a variety of tools and resources, for a minimum of 20 to 30 hours before taking an exam.
