Senior Corporate Counsel, Privacy, Global Payments Inc., Atlanta GA or other US Global Payments locations

Global Payments seeks an experienced privacy attorney to engage in a wide-ranging practice with an emphasis on compliance with consumer privacy laws in one or more of the following jurisdictions: United States, United Kingdom, or European Union (experience with privacy laws in  Mexico, Brazil, and Chile is also desirable).  We value a demonstrated record of experience understanding the regulatory requirements and advising business teams in a forward-looking and solution-oriented manner.

In this role, you will work closely with business and technology teams across Global Payments to identify legal risks, help create solutions, and collaborate on strategies to enable business success in this rapidly-evolving regulatory environment. The position is part of a collegial team of attorneys and other privacy professionals that form the Global Payments Privacy Office.  You will report to the Senior Associate General Counsel, Privacy, and engage in regular interaction with the Chief Privacy Officer, General Counsel, and other senior executives.

  • Advise business teams (including marketing, sales, IT, and operations) regarding compliance with privacy laws and work collaboratively with Privacy Office peers to provide advice for projects with both regional and global scope.
  • Advise on privacy related terms in agreements including license, vendor, SaaS, technology, master services, confidentiality and other agreements.
  • Advise and provide guidance on product strategy, considering data privacy laws, customer and partner relationships, consumer rights, and business needs.
  • Draft privacy policies, notices, related disclosures, disclaimers, FAQs and communications to support and enable business unit compliance.
  • Advise sales and marketing teams on privacy implications of various marketing initiatives including online advertising, behavioral advertising, affiliate marketing, mobile applications, social networking, email, SMS/text, and other consumer-facing communications.
  • Conduct formal and informal data privacy compliance training for the business partners, including in-person training.
  • Work closely with Information Security, Data Governance, Risk, and Audit teams to identify and mitigate data privacy compliance risks including issue-spotting and advising related to cybersecurity and data incidents.
  • Manage outside counsel in all appropriate areas of coverage.
  • Travel as needed, primarily domestic (generally less than 10% of time), occasional international travel may be required.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

Professional Qualifications:

  • D. degree with strong academic performance.
  • 4+ years experience practicing law at an AmLaw 200 law firm or in-house company.
  • Membership in at least one state bar.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Deep subject matter expertise with several of the following data privacy laws:  Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) and other state privacy laws, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Canadian Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
  • Experience interpreting regulatory guidance and drafting relevant privacy notices, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience advising corporate clients regarding compliance matters.
  • Experience negotiating and drafting contracts.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work on a broad variety of legal matters.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with business partners across levels and show leadership in cross-functional teams.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in the payments industry or financial services industry.
  • Ability to engage in technical discussions with IT teams regarding ad tech, data anonymization, and security/access controls related to cloud computing.
  • CIPP/US or CIPP/E certification.

The preferred location for this role is Atlanta, Georgia, USA but we are open to remote work for a strong candidate.
