MITRE's National Cybersecurity FFRDC (NCF) team is currently seeking a Privacy Architect. This position is an exciting opportunity to address technical privacy risk management and engineering challenges through the application of available technologies, standards, and frameworks. The position will require a sophisticated understanding of privacy risk analysis and engineering techniques, computer security, and computer architectures, as well as experience leading initiatives, adhering to schedules, and being a collaborative team player. The role involves interactions with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the government agency sponsor of the MITRE NCF, and MITRE team members, and will play a key role in supporting the NCF’s Privacy Domain Capability Area Lead with expanding our center’s privacy impact. The candidate is expected to have considerable customer interaction as well as public engagement, so good verbal skills are a must.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Leverage understanding of privacy to appropriately advise MITRE leadership in support of sponsor and internally funded work
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills to deliver data-driven solutions and high-quality recommendations
  • Possess strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to present delivery excellence in technical results in an intuitive, understandable, and actionable manner to sponsors, with the ability to adapt and evolve approaches within a rapidly changing environment
  • Create scalable and sustainable solutions through opportunities that integrate common knowledge, experience, and expertise across agencies
  • Proactively identify opportunities where the FFRDC can increase its value to NIST

Minimum Qualifications:

Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of the NIST Privacy Framework
  • Knowledge of laws, policies, procedures, or governance relevant to privacy
  • Demonstrated knowledge of privacy risk management processes (e.g., methods for assessing and addressing risk), including both organizational and individual impacts and identifying engineering solutions to address them
  • Ability to function in a collaborative environment, seeking continuous consultation with other analysts and experts—both internal and external to the organization—to leverage analytical and technical expertise
  • Professional privacy specialist certifications such as CIPP, CIPM, CIPT, and/or FIP

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in Privacy Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline
  • Experience developing Cybersecurity Framework or Privacy Framework Profiles
  • Experience applying NIST privacy guidance
  • Knowledge of the healthcare, intelligent transportation, or other IoT-enabled industries that process personal information
  • Knowledge of international privacy laws and regulations in established and emerging economic areas (e.g., the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation [GDPR])
  • Experience with advanced data processing capabilities (e.g., AI)
  • Experience with de-identification techniques (e.g., differential privacy, k-anonymity)
  • Skill in managing client relationships, including determining client needs/requirements, managing client expectations, and demonstrating commitment to delivering quality results
  • Skill in project planning activities, to include preparation of functional and specific support plans, preparing and managing project correspondence, budget planning, and staff management
  • Experience facilitating workshops
  • Demonstrated ability to present complex privacy topics at public events
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Able to obtain a clearance, if necessary
