VICTOR DOMINELLO
Victor Dominello is a former senior NSW government minister. In July 2022, he was recognized by the newspaper, The Australian, as one of the country’s top 100 innovators.
In 2019, Dominello was appointed the world’s first customer service minister. During his 12-year cabinet career he held a range of other portfolios including, digital government, innovation, finance and aboriginal affairs. He was part of the leadership group that led the state through COVID-19 and he drove digital solutions such as QR check-ins, vaccine certificates and dine and discover vouchers via the ServiceNSW app. Dominello is well-known globally for the role he played in transforming public service delivery in NSW through initiatives such as the Department of Customer Service, Service NSW and the Digital Restart Fund.
ANGELENE FALK
Angelene Falk was appointed Australian Information Commissioner and Privacy Commissioner in August 2018. She leads the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) in fulfilling its functions across privacy, freedom of information and government information management.
Ms. Falk has held senior positions in the OAIC since 2012. She served as Deputy Commissioner from 2016 and acting Australian Information Commissioner and Privacy Commissioner from March 2018.
Over the past decade Ms. Falk has worked extensively with Australian Government agencies, across the private sector and internationally, at the forefront of addressing regulatory challenges and opportunities presented by rapidly evolving technology and potential uses of data. Ms. Falk’s experience extends across industries and subject matter, including data breach prevention and management, data sharing, credit reporting, digital health and access to information.
Ms. Falk was admitted as a legal practitioner to the Supreme Court of NSW in 1998 and holds an Honours Degree of Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts from Monash University, a Graduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law from Melbourne University and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.
SAMANTHA FLOREANI
Privacy & Technology Specialist, Samantha Floreani has worked alongside clients during agile project design sprints, to offer advice on how best to implement “Privacy by Design” principles to shape project design and outcomes. She also conducts privacy audits and PIAs for our clients, and is currently working on a guide to AI and algorithmic fairness.
Sam has previously worked as a senior policy analyst for the Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner and as State Director of Code Like A Girl. She has a particular commitment to ensuring fairness in technology, from gender equity in the tech industry to the ethical handling of personal information. At OVIC Sam conducted PIAs, as well as research and analysis on emerging technologies, in order to develop position papers for the Commissioner and guidance for the Victorian public sector. She has worked at the intersection of law, technology and ethics on topics including artificial intelligence, biometrics, de-identification, non-consensual sharing of intimate images and information sharing within government.
DAN ILIC
‘Investigative Humourist’ Dan Ilic is one of Australia’s most prolific comedy voices, known for his work across TV, film, radio and stage.
Ilic is known for raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to shame the Australian government’s record on climate action in Times Square, New York City before the Glasgow climate talks in 2021.
As host of the popular podcast and live comedy show “A Rational Fear,” Dan brings together industry leaders, journalists, comedians and politicians to use comedy to explore big issues such as climate change, press freedom and the intersection of culture and the internet. “A Rational Fear” won Best Comedy Podcast at the Australian Podcast Awards in 2020 and 2021.
Ilic started his career on TV shows including “The Ronnie Johns Half Hour” (TEN), “Hungry Beast” (ABC) “Can of Worms” (TEN), and “Insiders” (ABC).
He has sold out shows at the Sydney Opera House, entertained with seasons on ABC Radio National, and performed stand-up under rocket fire in Kandahar.
As a journalist, in 2008 Dan scooped the world to the news of Heath Ledger’s death and covered the U.S. election for Fairfax Media, In 2015, he was appointed the senior satire producer of Al Jazeera’s youth publisher AJ+, and in 2016, he covered the U.S. election while executive producer of satire for Fusion/Gizmodo Media Group in the U.S.
He landed back in Australia as the executive producer and showrunner of the daily satirical TV show “Tonightly with Tom Ballard” (ABC), then more recently, the AACTA nominated “At Home Alone Together” (ABC), a coronavirus comedy lifestyle show.
In 2019, Ilic was acknowledged by the Obama Foundation’s Leaders Asia-Pacific for his work in satire and climate change activism, and was a 2020 Bertha Foundation Fellow.
STELA SOLAR
Stela Solar is the Director of Australia’s National AI Centre hosted by CSIRO, with the mission to accelerate positive AI adoption and innovation that benefits business and community. She has previously held roles at Microsoft including Global Director of AI Solution Sales, as well as roles across IT distributors and technology startups. Over the past 15 years, Stela has led business model transformations which enable organisations to capture new revenue opportunities and build competitive advantage with emerging technologies such as Cloud, IoT and AI. With a background in sustainability and creative industries, Stela thrives in ambiguity, change and purpose-led organisations. Outside of the technology arena, Stela enjoys the challenge of competitive sailing and tries to find time to play cello and piano.
FRITH TWEEDIE
Frith is a Principal at Simply Privacy in New Zealand, where she helps private and public sector clients develop good privacy and Responsible AI practices. She has over 20 years’ experience advising New Zealand, Australian and UK clients on privacy, technology and IP law issues and has a particular interest in the intersection between digital technologies, privacy and AI ethics.
Frith was previously the General Counsel and Chief Privacy Office at Auror, where she also developed and implemented their Responsible AI framework. Before that, she led the New Zealand and Australian Digital Law teams at EY Law. Frith drafted the Trustworthy AI in Aotearoa ethical principles while chairing the Law, Ethics & Society Working group of the AI Forum NZ and she recently developed an Algorithmic Impact Assessment process under the New Zealand government’s Algorithm Charter to help government agencies identify and mitigate algorithm-related risks and satisfy the Charter’s requirements.
Frith serves on the IAPP AI Governance Centre Advisory Board, the AU-NZ Advisory Board of the IAPP, the Executive Committee of the AI Forum NZ and the Data Ethics Advisory Group convened by the NZ Government Chief Data Steward.
MICHAEL WEBSTER
Michael Webster took up the role of privacy commissioner on 5 July 2022. Prior to this appointment he worked in the Cabinet Office, Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet for 14 years and held the position of secretary of the cabinet and clerk of the Executive Council from March 2014.
Webster has a long history of public service, with expertise in policy development, corporate strategy, and planning and risk management. His career has focused on enabling and driving good governance, the promotion of democratic rights and values, the development and application of codes of conduct and behaviour, and working to ensure compliance with both statutory provisions and constitutional conventions.
Webster holds a Master of Public Management and BA (Hons) from Victoria University of Wellington and is a graduate of the EY/Darden School of Business Programme, and the Executive Fellows Programme of the Australia and New Zealand School of Government.
ANNA ZEITER
Dr. Anna Zeiter is Chief Privacy Officer and Associate General Counsel for Privacy, Data & AI at eBay Inc. Since March 2022 she is also managing director of the eBay Marketplaces GmbH, the holding company of eBay’s international business. Before joining eBay in 2014, Anna had been working as a lawyer for two international law firms (DLA Piper and Norton Rose Fulbright), specializing in data protection, IT and eCommerce law. Before working as an attorney Anna Zeiter did her Ph.D. in the field of free speech and fundamental rights at the University of Hamburg, she also holds an LL.M. in Law, Science & Technology from Stanford Law School. Anna Zeiter is regularly giving speeches at international data protection conferences and teaches at several universities, e.g. at the universities of Stanford, Bern, Zurich, and Göttingen. Since 2020, Anna is serving as member of the IAPP (International Association of Privacy Professionals) Board of Directors, and since 2022 she is member of the Privacy & Security Advisory Board of Flo Health Inc. (a female health tracking app). Besides that, Anna is member of the Global Tech DPO Network in Ireland, and member of the Digital Transformations Working Group of the World Economic Forum, co-leading the workstream Business of Data & Data Valuation.
