Office of the Privacy Commissioner, Aotearoa New Zealand

Pou Ārahi

Shane is the Pou Ārahi (Māori Advisor) at the New Zealand Office of the Privacy Commissioner (OPC). He drives OPC’s strategic priority to work in partnership with indigenous Māori peoples to develop Māori perspectives on privacy. He assists the Privacy Commissioner and his office to effectively engage with Māori, to confidently walk and work in a Māori context, and to fulfil its responsibilities under the Treaty of Waitangi. The role is a key conduit to build effective relationships between the OPC and Māori collectives, communities, and organisations, and guides the building of capability across all areas of the Office to embed Māori perspectives into its work.

Shane affiliates to the indigenous tribes of Te Arawa and Ngāti Tūwharetoa in Aotearoa/New Zealand.
