Tahu Kukutai
Tahu Kukutai is from Aotearoa New Zealand and belongs to the tribes of Ngāti Tiipa, Ngāti Māhanga, Ngāti Kinohaku and Te Aupōuri. She is Professor of Demography at The University of Waikato and Co-Director of Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga Centre of Research Excellence. Tahu leads transdisciplinary research exploring Indigenous perspectives on information privacy as part of the ‘Tikanga in Technology’ programme funded by the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment. She is a founding member of the Māori Data Sovereignty Network Te Mana Raraunga and the Global Indigenous Data Alliance. She is also the lead author of the Māori Data Governance Model and co-edited Indigenous data sovereignty: Toward an agenda (ANU Press) and Indigenous data sovereignty and policy (Routledge). Tahu has degrees in History, Demography and Sociology from The University of Waikato and Stanford University. She is an elected Fellow of the New Zealand Royal Society Te Apārangi.
