Deputy Division Director

Jeremy Epstein is the National Science Foundation’s Deputy Division Director for Computer and Network Systems (CNS), in the Directorate of Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE), where he oversees a range of computer science research programs in privacy, security, networking, cloud computing, cyber physical systems, computer science education, and technology transition. He is co-chair of the government-wide Networking and Information Technology Research & Development (NITRD) activity’s Privacy Interagency Working Group. Prior to joining NSF, he was a senior computer scientist at SRI International, lead program officer for NSF’s flagship cybersecurity & privacy research program, and program manager for the Brandeis privacy program at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). In his spare time, he’s associate editor in chief of IEEE Security & Privacy magazine, and vice chair of the ACM US Public Policy Council (USACM), which focuses on policy issues for privacy, security, IoT, voting, algorithmic accountability, and other CS-related areas.
