Associate Director, Privacy

Pierce is part of the vanguard of young privacy professionals. As Manager, Privacy & Access to Information at Carleton University, Pierce ensures good privacy governance, compliance with provincial, federal and international privacy legislation, and processes formal requests for information.

Prior to joining Carleton University in March 2018, Pierce held various privacy related roles within various Government of Canada organizations. He is fluent in privacy governance, impact assessments, regulatory compliance, auditing, access to information operations, anti-spam compliance, and Canada’s official languages.

In addition to holding his CIPP/C and being an active IAPP member, Pierce holds the Canadian Institute of Access and Privacy Professionals-Professional (CIAPP-P) designation and is a member of the Canadian Access and Privacy Association (CAPA). He is also a Higher Education Industry Representative on the Standards Council of Canada’s Canadian Advisory Committee on General Data Protection Regulation.

As a way to give back to the community, Pierce volunteers as a KnowledgeNet Co-Chair for the IAPP Ottawa Chapter. He was previously the chapter’s Young Privacy Professional Leader, where he organized networking events to foster continual learning in the evolving privacy world. He also takes on pro bono cases for people that hit a wall trying to access their information, from private and public organizations alike.

When not championing privacy protection, Pierce can be found chasing putting perfection on the other set of links, or Stewie, his miniature poodle.
