Executive Director

Allen Brandt is currently the Executive Director and Chief Privacy Officer at the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation (DTCC), an organization processing securities and other transactions for the global financial markets. Allen is also the lead cybersecurity and data protection counsel for the firm. 

 

At DTCC, Allen leads the Data Protection & Technology Services Office which is responsible for policies and practices around the collection and use of personal data, for both employees and the firm’s clients. In his cybersecurity role, Allen drafted the industry’s first client cybersecurity rules, requiring DTCC’s clients to show that they have a program to protect data and the connection to DTCC, reducing the risk to the industry’s financial infrastructure, in addition to providing guidance on SEC and other global regulations.

 

Previously, in his more than 30 years of experience, Allen spent time in both the education and online marketing industries. His experience includes presenting privacy programs to the European Commission and European Data Protection Supervisor, as well as to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, U.S. Department of Commerce, and U.S. Department of State. He was a hearing officer for the EU-US Privacy Shield and the EU-US Safe Harbor programs and has previously sat on the Board of Directors for the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), where he holds CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM, and FIP, designations. In addition to his juris doctor degree, Allen holds a L.L.M. in Cybersecurity & Privacy Law from Albany Law School.
