President, Privacy Strategist

Bob Siegel, the founder and President of Privacy Ref, Inc., has extensive professional experience in the development and improvement of privacy policies and procedures, the definition of performance metrics to evaluate privacy maturity, and the evaluation of compliance. He utilizes a combination of alignment, adaptability, and accountability strategies to guide organizations in achieving their privacy goals.


Siegel has deep subject matter knowledge surrounding key laws and regulations regarding consumer privacy and information security, including extensive experience with PCI DSS and Safe Harbor. He is a Certified Information Privacy Professional, awarded from the International Association of Privacy Professionals, with concentrations in U.S. private-sector law (CIPP/US), U.S. Government law (CIPP/G), European law (CIPP/E), and Canadian law (CIPP/C). He is also a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) and Privacy Technologist (CIPT). Bob has been recognized as a Fellow of Information Privacy.


Siegel is a member of the IAPP faculty. He has served on the Certification Advisory Board for the CIPM program and the Publications Advisory Board.


Prior to founding Privacy Ref, Siegel served as senior manager of worldwide privacy and compliance for Staples, Inc. where his responsibilities included development, awareness and compliance of global privacy-related policies and procedures for more than 90,000 employees in 66 business units across 28 countries.
