Kurt Wimmer, CIPP/E, CIPP/US
Kurt Wimmer is the U.S. chair of our Data Privacy and Cybersecurity practice group at Covington & Burling LLP, and is immediate past chair of the Privacy and Information Security Committee of the American Bar Association’s Antitrust Section. Mr. Wimmer represents major social media companies, global technology companies and multinationals on privacy, cybersecurity and technology law issues. Mr. Wimmer focused on EU data protection law in Covington’s London office, where he was managing partner, from 2000-2003. From 2006 to 2009, he was general counsel of Gannett Co., Inc. Mr. Wimmer has testified before Congress several times, most recently in January 2014, and also has testified before legislatures in Russia, Romania and other countries. He has represented industry coalitions and published widely on privacy, cybersecurity and global Internet jurisdiction issues, and provided legal advice in more than two dozen countries.
