Global Head, Data Protection and Cybersecurity

Stewart Room, CIPP/E, is a partner at PwC Legal LLP, where he leads the cyber security and data protection practice. He has more than 23 years of experience as a Barrister and Solicitor, focusing for the majority of this time on technology and communications. Room specialises in the field of data protection and information management, including the commercial exploitation of data, the security of data, regulatory investigations and litigation arising from the misuse of data. He is rated as a leading individual in data protection by legal directory Chambers UK, who says he "is the kind of lawyer who inspires confidence" and "he is an excellent, first-rate, tactical lawyer."



Room has advised some of the world's leading businesses on these matters including: Accenture, Barclays Bank, BBC, BNP Paribas, British Gas, BskyB, Credit Suisse, Dell, EMC, HP, LinkedIn, Marks & Spencer, McAfee, NBC Universal, News UK, Orange, Oracle, Pearson, Post Office, Reckitt Benckiser, RSA, Sony, Symantec, Thomson Reuters, Vodafone, Unilever.



He holds a Master's Degree in Computer and Communications Law and he is a past winner of the Financial Times Legal Innovator of the Year Award' and the Lawyer Monthly Data Protection Lawyer of the Year Award'. He is also one of the founding directors of Cyber Security Challenge UK (which forms part of the UK National Strategy for Cyber Security) and the President of the National Association of Data Protection Officers. Room has written three leading textbooks on information law including Butterworths Data Security Law and Practice'.
