About the IAPP

Hielke Hijmans is Special Advisor to the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), e.g. dealing with ethical questions. He has been working for the EDPS as head of unit until 2014 and before at the European Court of Justice and the Dutch Ministry of Justice.  On 5 February 2016, he received his doctorate in law at the University of Amsterdam and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. His thesis is titled: "The European Union as a constitutional guardian of Internet privacy and data protection: The story of Article 16 TFEU.”
