About the IAPP

Scewit Ghebreweld is an Italian qualified lawyer, working as in-house attorney for IBM.

Scewit is part of the Global Transactional Privacy team as privacy expert on a global level, providing worldwide legal support to external and internal clients, dealing with a wide range of responsibilities such as privacy guidance, processes implementations, negotiation of Data Processing Contracts for IT Services and Products (from Cloud to Blockchain, from Hardware to Strategic Outsourcing etc).

As Blockchain privacy leader she provides advisory support and negotiates privacy agreements on this cutting-edge technology through a micro level assessment. She also trains legal and business teams with specific guidance and support.

In 2017 Scewit was selected as part of the GDPR implementation task force and helped IBM throughout a remediation and implementation plan for 2 years.  She is also a commercial attorney for the Italian market providing general legal support and from 2019 she has led European Diversity and Inclusion (D&I), coordinating 10 attorneys on D&I initiatives.[SG1] 

Recently Scewit enriched her technical background by completing a postgraduate, specialized course “Legal tech, coding for lawyers, artificial intelligence and blockchain legal issues” at the University of the Study of Milan, Italy, the first in Europe of its kind.

Scewit is also a member of the IAPP European Advisory Board (2021-2022).
