Deputy Director of Enforcement

Michael S. Macko is head of enforcement at the California Privacy Protection Agency. 



Before joining the Agency, Mike was in-house counsel at Amazon.com, Inc. He managed a variety of government and regulatory investigations and litigation worldwide relating to consumer protection, advertising, tax, content moderation, data privacy, cloud computing, and financial regulation.



Mike spent a decade handling complex investigations and litigation at the U.S. Department of Justice, serving as a Trial Attorney and as Assistant U.S. Attorney. Mike later served as a Trial Attorney in the Enforcement Division of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, where he focused on insider trading, breach of fiduciary duty, and disclosure violations under the securities laws. 



In addition to his enforcement roles, Mike taught litigation practice for five years as an adjunct professor of law at Rutgers Law School. Mike graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and clerked for judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
