Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada

Deputy Commissioner, Compliance Promotion and Enforcement

Isabelle Gervais joined the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (OPC) in February 2024. Over a career now spanning 30 years, she acquired a wealth of cross-regulatory experience. A graduate of Civil Law at the Université de Montréal, she spent the first part of her career in the academic and non-profit sectors. She then joined the public service in 2002 in regulatory development at Employment and Social Development Canada, and in the years that followed, developed an expertise in legislative and regulatory development as well as strategic policy in other large federal departments, including Health Canada.

In 2012, her work became increasingly focused on the compliance sector, first at the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy, and then at the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) where, as an executive, she led compliance and data initiatives, with her last role at the CRA as Director for the Chief Data Officer Secretariat. Just before joining the OPC, she spent three years as Assistant Commissioner with the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages, where she was responsible for overseeing all compliance activities and played in a key role in legislative modernization.
