About the IAPP

Jared Butcher (CIPP/US) is a partner in the Washington, DC office of CrossCastle PLLC. Jared advises clients regarding a wide range of data privacy and cybersecurity issues under foreign and domestic laws. He particularly enjoys the privacy and security challenges presented by emerging technologies such as smart contracts, artificial intelligence (AI), the internet of things (IoT), big data, and blockchain and digital assets. He has worked with a variety of FinTech companies—from startups to incumbents—to analyze the regulatory environment surrounding financial technologies and develop compliance strategies. He regularly writes and speaks on legal issues pertaining to blockchain and smart contract applications, and his work on FinTech issues earned him a spot on Law360’s list of Rising Stars in 2019. Jared also has significant experience with regulatory investigations and litigation arising from data breaches or disputes with business partners and customers. In this context, he understands the obligations of clients that have suffered a data-breach, as well as the remedies that may be available to mitigate the harms and to protect against further unauthorized uses of compromised data.
