About the IAPP

Gil Zhang is an experienced privacy practitioner based in Shanghai. He is a partner from Fangda Partners. 

Gil’s practice focuses on data protection and cyber security, corporate and compliance. Mr. Zhang managed and led many global GDPR compliance projects and a binding corporate rules project before, and also worked on setting up data protection program in China and various Asian Pacific countries. He has extensive experience in data protection and cyber security issues, assisting client in responding to law enforcements, criminal investigation and defense and privacy litigations in China. He has been frequently assisting clients in handling government document requests, particularly more after Schrems II. He has advised clients in various sectors such as autonomous driving, medical and healthcare sector, financial services and banking, energy and resources, retail and FMCG, online services and digital platforms etc. 

Gil once worked as in-house counsel and this gives him very practical experience in supporting his clients on implementation of data protection management program and privacy audit.
