About the IAPP

Simon became the UK’s first DPO in 2007, when appointed to the role by IBM. In 2011 he switched to consulting, joining Concentium, where he specialised in Privacy risk and assurance, developing privacy management frameworks for a range of global clients. He continued in this work when Concentium was acquired by KPMG, before joining Asda in 2015 as DPO, where he developed Walmart’s global Privacy/GDPR Programme. There he built his first software solution for data mapping and performing PIAs on over 130 processing systems and processes. 

In 2018 he founded AwarePrivacy, and in 2020 began development of APIMS, privacy software for SMEs, schools and charities, which won “Most Impactful Privacy Product of the Year” at the 2023 PICCASO Europe Privacy Awards.

Simon is a Fellow of Information Privacy and a non-practising Barrister.
