LIISA THOMAS is a Partner in Sheppard Mullin’s Chicago and London offices, the Chicago Office Managing Partner, and Leader of Sheppard Mullin’s Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Group. Her clients rely on her ability to create clarity in a sea of confusing legal requirements and describe her as “extremely responsive, while providing thoughtful legal analysis combined with real world practical advice.” Ms. Thomas is the author two treatises on privacy and data security law: (1) Thomas on Data Breach: A Practical Guide to Handling Worldwide Data Breach Notification and (2) Thomas on Big Data: A Practical Guide to Global Privacy Laws. Both have been praised as a practical, comprehensive, invaluable tools. Ms. Thomas is recognize by clients and peers as an industry leader, is listed in Chambers and Legal 500, and among several accolades was named 2022 Lawyer of the Year – Privacy and Data Security by Best Lawyers. She received her J.D. from the University of Chicago, and serves as an adjunct professor teaching privacy and cyber security classes at Northwestern Law School. Ms. Thomas is active with IAPP, serving on the Training Advisory Board (2018-2019 and 2021-present), is a past member of the IAPP Education Advisory Board (2010-2012), and has conducted several popular training workshops, including a series of data breach bootcamps at both US and EU events.
