About the IAPP

Alea Garbagnati is Head of Privacy at Adaptive Biotechnologies, where she leads a team of amazing privacy professionals and provides strategic counsel on privacy compliance, product privacy by design, research, and data strategy. Alea is passionate about finding practical and ethical solutions to support data use in health research and innovation and has co-authored articles and presented on the subject. She has almost a decade of experience in international and domestic privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity law. Prior to joining Adaptive, she was privacy counsel at a multinational diagnostics and pharmaceutical company, where she was involved in a number of privacy, cybersecurity, and data related initiatives at varying levels of the organization. She was also an advisory consultant at a Big Four accounting firm, where she provided privacy and data protection support to companies across industries. She is an alumna of the University of California, Irvine (zot zot!), and Hastings College of the Law. When she’s not a privacy Jedi master, Alea enjoys spending time with her family and is an avid traveler, (very) amateur photographer, musical theater aficionado and passionate soccer fan (go Quakes!).
