Emilio Cividanes is a partner in the Washington, DC office of the Venable LLP law firm, and a founding member of itsprivacy and data security practice group, whichreceived the Award of Excellence from Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business.



Mr. Cividanes hasnearly three decades of experience in counselingclients in connection with privacy and data protection.



He also has successfully represented companies in connection with privacy-related litigation, and congressional and regulatory investigations. Among other cases, Mr. Cividanes was a member of the legal teams that represented GeoCities in the FTC's first Internet privacy case in 1997 andTiVo in a congressionally-requested FTC privacy investigation in 2001. He has in recent years represented companies in privacy investigations in a wide range of settings, including online advertising, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and data security.



The respected British research firm Chambers & Partners has repeatedly recognized Mr. Cividanes in its publications Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business and Chambers Global: The World's Leading Lawyers for Business in the Privacy and Data Security practice area. Referring to him as "among the nation's first privacy lawyers," Chambers USA notes thatMr. Cividanes earns"particular plaudits for his 'sophisticated enforcement work.'"



Mr. Cividanes is a graduate of Haverford College and of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he served as Comments Editor for the Law Review.
