About the IAPP

Noriswadi Ismail is an experienced data privacy, governance, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies risk practitioner and thought leader in technology, media and telecommunications, and data-driven sectors, infused by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning/Unlearning. Noris joined GSMA on 20 May 2024 as Senior Director – Data Privacy, Policy & Regulation, serving as global lead, expert and thought leader on data protection and privacy issues and as primary point of contact for all GSMA advocacy related questions and developments. He’s also representing GSMA externally with government, regulators and other key stakeholders to advance GSMA policy positions and influence policymakers and regulators globally.

Noris has LLB (Hons) and LLM in Information Technology & Telecommunications Laws. Since 2000 to date, Noris held leadership positions as inhouse technology, compliance and regulatory affairs counsel & general counsel in ASEAN/APAC, based in Subang Jaya, Malaysia and consulting leadership positions in global consulting firms, based in London (as Global, EMEA & APAC data privacy & governance leader), including Ernst & Young (EY) U.K LLP (as GDPR consulting leader) and served global stakeholders ranging from the public sector, regulated sectors and to start-ups as part of the Board’s strategic policy, operations, digital transformation, optimisation, assurance and improvement team. Noris was former interim Data Protection Officer (DPO) of EY and fractional DPO for global mid-market firms deploying mobile, cloud, blockchain technologies and AI.

Noris is an active member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), having served its Asia and European Advisory Boards, and currently serves as Diversity in Privacy Section Advisory Board on pro bono basis. Author of 2 books in Data Protection and have penned more than 20+ thought leadership, as sole author and joint author(s) in peer reviewed leading data privacy, security and telecommunications journals and sector-focused publications. Noris has delivered more than 180,000 hours of consulting, masterclass, webinars, workshops, strategic whiteboarding business case and scenario planning sessions for Board of Directors, C-Suite, Regulators, Fortune 500, FTSE 100, FTSE 250 – data driven cross sectors. Noris is Chevening and Fulbright Alumni.

Noris loves forest bathing and, in between, boxing (novice stage), gardening (intermediate stage), cooking, mentoring, coaching and deeply passionate in diversity, equity & inclusion and wellness.
