Koen Versmissen, FIP
Dr. Koen Versmissen is a privacy professional with 15 years of experience in the field, gained at the Dutch Data Protection Authority and as a consultant.
As a policy co-ordinator at the Dutch DPA, Versmissen specialized in e-government privacy issues, in particular those relating to identity management. After that, for several years he led the unit responsible for privacy oversight of the private sector.
As a consultant he has helped both public and private organizations with shaping privacy compliance in practice, especially by carrying out privacy impact assessments.
Although not a lawyer, Versmissen can hold his own with the best when it comes to knowledge of privacy law, compliance and management. He knows his way around public policy processes and is politically sensitive. He is always looking for solutions that are both thorough and pragmatic. He is also an experienced privacy trainer. Colleagues and customers appreciate Versmissen for being open, flexible and results-oriented, for his knowledgeability and for his ability to make complex affairs simple, both in speaking and in writing.
Versmissen was trained as a mathematician and computer scientist at Utrecht University, and holds a PhD in computational linguistics from that same institution.
