Marketing Privacy Director

Kim Howell is the Senior Director of Privacy for Microsoft’s Marketing and Consumer Business. She has worked at Microsoft for over 19 years taking her first privacy role in 2002. She has helped guide the companies approach to privacy governance playing a lead role in policy development, training & awareness, incident management, and compliance measurement. In her current role she manages a team that focuses on responsible data use by the Marketing and Consumer Business organization as well as driving Microsoft’s strategy for managing customer contact permissions. Her recent focus has been on ensuring GDPR compliance in partnership with Microsoft’s Legal Team and the Office of the Chief Privacy Officer. 



In earlier roles at Microsoft, Kim designed the Online Safety governance program and oversaw the development of Microsoft’s Global Network Initiative governance program. She is a two-time recipient of the Microsoft Trustworthy Computing Privacy Excellence Award, and often presents on privacy related topics at industry events.



Prior to working at Microsoft, Kim worked in both the financial and publishing industries. She has a Master’s Degree in Applied Statistics and a background in Database Marketing building statistical models for targeting.
