Christian Wiese Svanberg is General Counsel for SIGINT, Cyber and International Legal Affairs at the Danish Defense Intelligence Service. He holds law degrees from the University of Copenhagen and University of Pennsylvania Law School (LLM class of 2008) and a BA in European law & West European Studies from the University of Wolverhampton, UK. Christian has worked 20 years in the Danish public sector and as an attorney-at-law in Copenhagen. He specializes in Data Protection and Privacy Law including chairing six months of the expert level negotiations of the European Union’s GDPR during the Danish EU Presidency in 2012. He was also the lead case officer on the successful passage of the EU-US PNR agreement in 2012. He is currently responsible for all legal issues concerning SIGINT and Cyber (CNE/CNO and Cyber Defense) and partner related legal affairs at the DDIS, which is Denmark’s all source foreign and military intelligence service. He is an external lecturer in European Data Protection law at the University of Copenhagen, Faculty of Law and the author of several book chapters and peer reviewed article on Data Protection and Privacy Law related issues.
