About the IAPP

Dr. Alan Tang is an accomplished privacy and security expert with over 18 years of experience, currently serving as the Commerce Data Protection Officer for ByteDance. He has led privacy teams for two Fortune 50 companies and built a privacy team from scratch, managing privacy programs for businesses generating $136.7 billion in revenue with over 180,000 employees. Dr. Tang has implemented privacy programs across 60+ jurisdictions and managed risks for products with over 400 million monthly active users.

In addition to his operational expertise, Dr. Tang is the author of several books, including:

Dr. Tang has devoted his time serving as the Co-Chair of IAPP KnowledgeNet Vancouver Chapter from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2024.

With a Ph.D. in Information Security and an MBA, Dr. Tang holds numerous certifications, including FIP, AIGP, CIPP/E/US/C/A, CIPM, CIPT, CISSP, and CISA. As a thought leader, he serves on the editorial board of the SCIREA Journal of Computer and as a reviewer for the International Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering (IJECE).
