About the IAPP

Nabanita De is the Founder and CEO of Privacy License, empowering companies to enter global markets & safeguarding privacy as a human right for their employees and consumers. She received her Masters in Computer Science, specializing in AI from UMass Amherst & has 10 years of Privacy Experience, across Industry and startups.

Nabanita's first encounter with privacy was 9 years ago at Microsoft Research, where as an AI Researcher, she built a Large Language Model (LLM) to infer locations from millions of tweets solely through dialect, without any geocodes. Intrigued by a Computer Networks class, Nabanita pursued a six-month Network Security Internship at Paramount, building their virtual IT infrastructure and LLMs to detect phishing and spam emails.

Further, Nabanita went on to build a startup & lead a full-stack team in the Trust and Safety space, detecting Misinformation on social media using AI, downloaded in 135 countries & featured in over 1000+ news articles, 30+ Universities and countless research papers worldwide. Following, as a Software Engineer at Microsoft in the Data Engineering, Data Science and AI space & owner of data streams of terabytes of customer data, Nabanita implemented privacy enhancing technologies (PETs) across Microsoft's internal Data Lake and Map reduce clusters to uniquely identify customer data for fulfilling DSARs, for GDPR compliance (around 2018). Next, in Uber Detect & Response org (Cloud Security), Nabanita lead several company-wide Cloud (AWS, GCP & Azure) Privacy Data Governance, DLP and Privacy incident management efforts, scale: exabytes of data, across all orgs at Uber (across Rideshare, Eats, Airports, Grocery, our M&As) where Nabanita worked with company-wide technical and non-technical teams, saved 2 billion dollars for Uber & won 6 leadership awards.

Transitioned to the stricter-regulatory Fintech space as a single threaded leader for privacy, Nabanita helped start the global Privacy Program (-1 to 0 & 0 to 1 leadership), provided Technical Privacy roadmap/guidances (in Data Governance and Privacy by design space), sat between privacy legal, GRC, security and tech teams, translated privacy legal/regulatory/compliance to tech and wore several hats as Privacy Engineering Manager, Privacy Program Manager, Privacy Product Manager and Privacy Engineer. Nabanita moved over to Antler as founder in residence for building Privacy and AI Governance programs from 0 to 1. Nabanita's privacy startup's first product, Privacygpt, is a chrome extension -- privacy firewall for chatagpt prompts ranked top 4 worldwide on Product hunt. Nabanita also runs a Privacy Newsletter on Linkedin "Nabanita's moonshots" & a Privacy Champions Program, to empower company-wide technical & non-technical stakeholders in Privacy.
