Sina Fazelpour

Sina Fazelpour is currently Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Computer Science at Northeastern University. His research focuses on issues of justice, diversity, and reliability in data-driven and AI technologies. He also works on understanding the concepts and consequences of diversity in social groups and networks. At Northeastern, he is a core member of the Institute for Experiential AI and NULab for Texts, Maps, and Networks. Sina is co-founder of the Intelligence, Data, Ethics and Society (IDEAS) summer institute for undergraduate students to both broaden participation in and advance a cross-disciplinary approach towards the field of responsible AI.
Before joining Northeastern, he was a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Philosophy at Carnegie Mellon University, with a secondary affiliation in the Machine Learning Department. He was a 2020-21 Council Fellow on the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Data Policy. He was recently named as part of the first cohort of Schmidt Futures’ AI2050 Early Career Fellows. Sina also serves as a visiting AI fellow at NIST, working within the Office of Emerging Technology and the Trustworthy and Responsible AI program.
