JOHN N. GEVERTZ is Of Counsel at DLA Piper in the Data Protection, Privacy and Security Group where he focuses on implementing data and privacy governance frameworks, M&A, financial services/FinTech, and a wide range of operational privacy matters.

John has built and managed global privacy programs at two major multinational corporations: Visa Inc. and Automatic Data Processing, Inc. Most recently at Visa, John was Senior Vice President/Chief Privacy Officer responsible for global privacy compliance, information governance, and privacy operations management. John also chaired Visa’s Data Use Council, and was a member of the Data Council, ESG Working Group, and Business Controls Working Group, among other responsibilities.

Prior to Visa, John was Global Chief Privacy Officer of ADP. In that role, John provided legal counsel, as well as operational strategic guidance to all worldwide ADP business units on a wide range of privacy, cybersecurity, data strategy and related issues. He was also responsible for developing the intellectual property, operational risk management, and security policy and controls assurance programs.

John currently serves as on the steering committee of the Forum on International Privacy and on the Cybersecurity Advisory Board at Pace University's Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems. He has also served on the Digital Economy committee of the EU-US Track Star Dialogue, the advisory boards of the Information Accountability Foundation and the Future of Privacy Forum, the Visionaries Council of the Rise of Privacy Technology, and the Conference Board Council of Chief Privacy Officers.

John received his J.D. from New York University and his B.A. from Brown University in both biology and political philosophy.
