About the IAPP

James Gong, CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM, is a partner at Bird & Bird based in Beijing and leads the China data protection and cybersecurity team. James has extensive experience in advising cyber security and data protection as well as regulatory and transactional issues in technology, media, telecommunications (TMT) sector. His clients include multinationals and local companies in a broad range of industries, and he is particularly skilled in solving complicated legal issues. He is frequently quoted in the media for his views and a recognized author of articles on TMT and privacy matters.

James graduated from the University of Manchester with an LL.B degree. He is admitted to the bar in People's Republic of China and in New York state, United States. He is also a member of IAPP and holds CIPP/E, CIPP/US and CIPM certificates and an expert of the Big Data Group of the National Information Security Standardization Technical Committee (TC260).
