About the IAPP

Oliver Patel is the Enterprise AI Governance Lead at AstraZeneca. AstraZeneca is harnessing AI and data to transform the drug discovery and development process, empowering scientists to push the boundaries of science and deliver life-changing medicines for patients. Oliver leads AstraZeneca's Global Enterprise AI Governance function. He oversees the development and scaling of a robust AI governance and risk management framework, aligned to global AI regulations. His mission is to ensure that AI is developed, procured and used in a safe and responsible way.

Oliver advises international governments and policymakers as a Member of the OECD's Expert Group on AI Risk and Accountability. Oliver is also a Member of the IAPP's Research Advisory Board, as well as a Training Instructor for the IAPP's AI Governance Faculty and the AI Governance Professional (AIGP) Certificate.

Oliver was previously Director of Public Policy at Holistic AI, an AI risk management company. He was also Head of Inbound Data Flows for the UK Government, where he led efforts to deliver the EU-UK data adequacy agreements. Prior to this, he spent several years as an academic researcher at University College London. Oliver's expertise lies at the intersection of AI governance, privacy and data.
