Mairead O'Reilly
Mairead is the Legal Director of Enforcement at the ICO. She leads the ICO’s civil enforcement team and provides legal and strategic advice to the Commissioner on ICO regulatory interventions. Since joining the ICO, Mairead has provided legal advice across the ICO’s portfolio of domestic and international projects, including the ICO’s regulatory sandbox, preparation for the Online Safety Act and developing guidance on online design practices.
Before joining the ICO, Mairead was a senior lawyer in the Data Privacy team at law firm, Bates Wells, where she supported a range of commercial, public and third sector organisations with their data privacy compliance, advising on subject access requests, complex data sharing arrangements and responding to regulatory investigations. Mairead has held trustee and advisory roles at a number of charitable organisations, including Girls Friendly Society (a charity that supports girls and young women) and, most recently, the Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice.
