Heather Shumaker joined the Office of Indiana Attorney General in 2019 as a Deputy Attorney General in the Consumer Protection Division for the Data Privacy and Identity Theft Unit and is CIPP/US certified. Prior to that she worked in litigation for 10 years representing both Plaintiffs and Defendants and also serving as a Public Defender. Through her work as a litigator she has a wealth of experience representing clients in Indiana trial courts, Federal District Courts across the country, the Indiana Court of Appeals and the Indiana Supreme Court. She has twice completed the Indiana Public Defender Council’s Trial Practice Institute and is a graduate of the United Way Emerging Leaders program. In addition to practicing law, she has been an adjunct with the IUPUI Paralegal Studies program since 2011 and rotates through teaching Family Law, Litigation, and Legal Research and Writing. Outside of work, she is usually driving her daughter to and from ballet while listening to true crime podcasts or traveling with her daughter and husband to visit their son in New York City.
