Dr. Brent Mittelstadt is a Research Fellow and British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow in data ethics at the Oxford Internet Institute, a Turing Fellow at the Alan Turing Institute, and a member of the UK National Statistician’s Data Ethics Advisory Committee. He is a philosopher specialising in digital ethics, bioethics, and ethical governance of algorithmic systems, with a particular focus on the EU General Data Protection Regulation and fairness, accountability and transparency in automated decision-making systems.
