About the IAPP

Sergio A. VeLarde is a Senior Counsel in Visa’s Global Privacy Office where he provides advice on data, privacy and AI compliance on a range of different products and services at a global scale. He is passionate about privacy as a human right, about AI's transformative potential, and is fascinated by the human rights and legal compliance challenges facing organizations, business and governments. Prior to joining Visa, Sergio worked as a Senior Associate at Fieldfisher, a major European law firm, advising public and private Silicon Valley technology companies on all aspects of digital privacy and data protection, including multijurisdictional compliance and European expansion.

Sergio has a Juris Doctor in U.S. law from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an LL.M. in European Union law from Radboud University in the Netherlands, a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh, and is a Certified Information Privacy Professional in the U.S. Private Sector (CIPP/US) and in European Law (CIPP/E).
