About the IAPP

Mike is currently leading Asia's Data Protection and Privacy operations for a social media tech unicorn start-up. Prior to the current role, Mike spent 4 years with the Singapore Personal Data Protection Commission as an Investigation Officer and Technical assessor. He was subsequently headhunted to join Grab Taxi as the Privacy Engineering Lead, where he set up the Privacy Engineering team. He then moved to Alibaba Cloud where he led the Asia privacy compliance and Security Compliance for Australia, Japan, South Korea, and India. Some of the key initiatives undertaken by him include but are not limited to, Cookies consent, Data Subject Request, Data Protection/ Privacy by Design, APEC CBPR/PRP certifications, Data Center security audit, privacy assurance, data mapping, DPIA/PIA and privacy center. Mike was the first 500 Fellow of Information Privacy conferred in early 2017. He is also a certified CISA, CISM, CDPSE, CIPM, CIPT, and CIPP/A. He holds a Bachelor Degree in information technology, a Master of Science in Information Studies, and an Executive MBA. He is also the APMG accredited trainer for CDPSE.
