About the IAPP

Ian Wilbur is a Legal Director with Google DeepMind, focusing on AI product development, responsibility, and governance issues. He joined Google as a Product Counsel in 2011 and has been working in the AI field since 2018, when he began managing Google’s first AI-dedicated Legal team supporting its AI Research division. In this capacity he has led Google’s legal support for numerous AI product launches (including Gemini), research projects, external collaborations and internal governance processes, such as ethics and safety reviews. He formally joined the DeepMind Legal team in February of this year.

Prior to his career at Google, he was a litigation Associate in the IP/Media Litigation group at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP in New York and Silicon Valley, and a Senior Associate with the litigation firm of Grippo & Elden LLC in Chicago, IL. He currently lives with his family in Danville, CA.
